It’s time to rethink forest management

| February 18, 2020 3:38 PM

My wife and I went for a hike on the main Beaver Lake trail last week and observed numerous trees on the trail and near the trail that had been blown over due to the west wind.

The winds are more numerous and the velocity is increasing, so you would think the state Department of Natural Resources and United State Department of Agriculture would get the message and change their policy on removing our overstory. When the forest service removes our canopy, it increases the wind and removes the shade that keeps the Earth cool.

We may need wood for house construction, but we also need the trees for our very existence.

When are we going to wake up and push back on the science that only cares about our local mills.
