Little Guy wrestling begins season

The Montana Little Guy wrestling season will start Feb. 18 and go for six weeks ending March 28.

Cost for participation is $35 for those in kindergarten through fifth grade and $50 for Junior High wrestlers sixth through eighth grades. Cost includes a T-shirt for the wrestlers to keep and the use of club shoes and singlet, additional cost for sixth though eighth grade helps with travel expenses that will be associated with the Junior High wrestling program.

Registration forms are available at school offices or at Open Mat every Tuesday and Thursday 6:15 p.m.-7:15 p.m. in the upstairs gym of the Whitefish Middle School. Registrations can be given at any Open Mat or be brought to the first practice.

A registration form must be filled out and waiver of liability signed by parent or guardian before participation in any open mat or practice.

Scholarships are available for those that may need financial assistance.

Wrestlers are separated by age groups based on the age of the wrestler at the beginning of the season and their weight.

PeeWee: Kindergarten (regardless of age)

Beginner: ages 6, 7, and 8

Novice: ages 9 and 10

Middle: ages 11 and 12

Junior: ages 13 and 14

Fifth through eighth grade will practice Monday through Friday 3:45-5:15 p.m. in the upstairs gym of the Whitefish Middle School.

Kindergarten through fourth grade will practice Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:45-7 p.m. in the upstairs gym of the Whitefish Middle School.

If there is no school there will be no practice.

Competitions are encouraged, but not required for participation.
