Dominick freerides to first in Golden
Whitefish High School sophomore Gardner Dominick skied his way to a first place finish recently at the Jeep Junior Freeride National Championship.
Dominick won the 15- to 18-year-old age division, made up of 46 competitors that includes two former North American champions and five top-10 ranked Canadian skiers.
The competition was held in Golden, British Columbia, on Jan. 30 through Feb. 2.
Gardner was awarded a score of 35.633 points for his run, which included three big airs and a 20-foot cliff as well as super-G turns.
Second place finished with a score of 34.2333.
Then on Feb. 7-8 he competed in Fernie, taking second in the 15-18 year old age division with a final score of 65.0333.
Dominick is working to qualify for the North American Championships in April at Crystal Mountain near Seattle.
