Alpine Theatre Project show celebrates love with rock
Alpine Theatre Project will begin its 2020 season on Valentine’s Day weekend with a concert of classic rock Feb. 13-15 at the ATP Garage.
The show is entitled Star-Crossed: Classic Rock. Modern Love.
“This is massive for the Flathead Valley, and we couldn’t be more excited,” says ATP Artistic Director Betsi Morrison. “We’re starting the year off by blasting the roof of the ATP Garage with two of the most powerful rock vocalists in the country backed by some the Flathead’s best musicians.”
The concert continues ATP’s popular series of cabaret performances at its intimate headquarters, the ATP Garage, located at 6464 US Highway 93 South in Whitefish.
The Valentine’s show stars Broadway and recording artists, Eric Michael Krop and Tracy McDowell in a cosmic celebration of unexpected love using classic rock from the 70s and 80s. The ATP Garage will be transformed to launch guests into outer space featuring the music of Led Zeppelin, Heart, Foreigner, Journey, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar, and more.
The production includes performances on Feb. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. with cocktails beginning at 6:30 p.m. Only 60 seats are available per performance.
“I grew up on the rock of the 70s and 80s,” Morrison said. “So much of this music defined love for an entire generation. I wanted us to celebrate that by using this roster of musicians that are out of this world!”
Starring in the show are Eric Michael Krop, a longtime Flathead Valley favorite and Los Angeles resident. Krop made his Broadway debut in the revival of “Godspell” at Circle in the Square. After moving to Los Angeles, he quickly broke into the music scene doing back-up vocals for James Corden in the movie “Peter Rabbit” and working with Grammy winning pop producer Greg Kurstin. He has performed all over the world, and his music is featured on iTunes and Spotify. Krop was recently seen at ATP starring in 2019’s “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Dare to Dream,” and “Yuletide Affair 16,” as well as previous productions like “Rock of Ages.”
Tracy McDowell has performed on Broadway in the final cast of “RENT,” and “Motown the Musical.” She’s performed off-Broadway in “Jawbreaker,” “Atlantis,” and “Tonya & Nancy.” She has been a soloist for UN, Broadway in South Africa, and The Next Big Thing on the Oxygen Network. She has been featured in numerous ATP productions like “Rock of Ages,” “Hair,” and the “Yuletide Affair.”
Anne Fraser Thomas is currently a member of the Tony Award-winning vocal ensemble, Broadway Inspirational Voices. She has performed in the pre-Broadway productions of “Hercules,” “Allegiance,” and “The Prince of Egypt.” She has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, as well as singing with such stars as Lea Salonga, Tituss Burgess, Patti LaBelle, and Mariah Carey.
These vocalists will be backed by a band of Flathead Valley music all-stars including Nick Spear on guitar, Erica Von Kleist on sax, Ross Bridgeman on keyboards, Matt Seymour on bass, and Jeremy Reinbolt on drums.
The ATP 2020 season also includes the regional premiere of the Broadway mega-hit musical, “Jersey Boys,” as well as the return of its hit production of the classic opera and burlesque mash-up, OperaLesque, and its ever-popular “Yuletide Affair.”
