Flathead Valley natives Ethan Thompson and Jenny Snipstead’s jingles were putting them on the map, as the pair reached the final stages of a Folgers Coffee jingle contest. The winners of the contest would receive $25,000 and be featured in an upcoming commercial.

Whitefish hosted the first North Valley Championship Basketball All-Star Classic, bringing together some of the Valley’s best young players. The classic included games, a dunk contest and a three-point shootout.

April 5, 1990
Record-breaking warm weather was heating up the Flathead. A 77-year temperature record broke after the temperature reached 72 degrees, beating the previous record of 66 degrees. The forecast called for continued warm days.

April 10, 1980
Longtime Pilot editor and publisher Richard Adams died unexpectedly at the age of 51. He owned and edited the Pilot from 1959 to 1978, when he sold the paper to Sage Publishing in Wyoming.

April 9, 1970
Whitefish was getting on a space/religious issue, as the Whitefish Council for Decency was requesting letters from the public to be sent to NASA. The letter campaign was in response to a nationwide campaign from an avowed atheist who took issue with NASA astronauts reading the bible in space. The decency council wanted to encourage the bible reading.
