| September 17, 2019 12:56 PM

Fall Pro-Am Saturday and Sunday

The Annual Fall Pro-Am will be held this coming weekend with play on the South Course Saturday and switching to the North on Sunday leaving the opposite course open for play. This very popular event involves golf professionals from around the region as well as a group of Canadian professionals and amateurs. Play consists of one best net ball and one gross ball on each hole from the four amateur players and one professional per team.

Fall maintenance

Fall maintenance will take place Sept. 30 and Oct. 1-2. Aeration for all 36 holes will take place starting Monday, Sept. 30 on the North Course then moving to the South once the first 18 is completed. One of the two sides will be open at all times for member and guest play. The Dry-Jet process injects sand and water into the greens at sufficient pressure to extend down about 9 inches thereby breaking up the compaction created by golf traffic and allowing gases to exchange and water and nutrients to reach the rootzone.

Absentee ballots in Golf Shop

For those Tier One members unable to attend the Annual Meeting of the Whitefish Lake Golf Association absentee ballots are available in the Golf Shop to vote for 2020 board of director positions. Norm Nelson a retired teacher and real estate sales agent is running for the board. Jeff Doorn, a retired IT management employee with Plum Creek and later Weyerhaeuser, is also running for one of the vacant positions for a male tier one member. Both Norm and Jeff are long time members of the Whitefish Lake Golf Club. Karen Jacobson a retired teacher is the lone candidate for the soon to be open seat for a female board member in the 2020 term. More detailed bios are available in the golf shop upon request.

Force yourself to make solid contact

One way to insure that you are hitting down on the ball instead of sweeping the ball is to place a towel about 6 inches behind the ball. Hit balls and you should make better contact as you miss the towel and hit down on and through the ball. Always pick an exact target when hitting balls otherwise you are not as focused as you should be.
