Special events at galleries include:

- The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is featuring photography by Whitefish resident, Jack DeWitt during the month of September. DeWitt has lived in our area for 12 years after living in Carmel, California, for many years. DeWitt is a self-taught artist who specializes in a wide variety of photographs that include Glacier Park, local scenery, trains, flowers, horses, pets, and wildlife.

DeWitt really appreciates the chance to take photographs in this area because of the four seasons that always offer changing light, subject matter, and a chance to view the wide diversity that has been given to us all. He has many spectacular photos of Glacier National Park and iconic scenes in and around Whitefish.

His work will be displayed during the opening and throughout the month of September. For more information, visit www.purplepomegranate.com.

- Whitefish Pottery and Stillwater Gallery are excited to present, Into the Forest, an exhibition of work from ceramic artist Heidi Haugen and watercolor artist Jessica Glenn.

Heidi Haugen has been making ceramics for the past 20 years. She and her husband, Leif, and their two dogs live and work in West Glacier. Haugen is a fourth-generation resident of the Flathead Valley and a graduate of Whitefish High School, which is where she first experienced her love for clay.

Haugen received her degree in forestry from the University of Montana and after working for both the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service, she decided to pursue working with clay full time in 1998. Haugen is primarily a self-taught artist, without any formal fine arts education. Her pots are stout, simple, functional, and are intended to be a part of your daily routine.

“When I am not elbow deep in clay (which is most of the time), I love exploring Montana’s high country.”

Jessica Glenn and her husband recently moved to Dillon. They previously lived in the Flathead where many hikes were taken exploring the local scenery, especially the Columbia Mountain Trail. Living in the Rockies has provided an endless source of subjects for Glenn to draw inspiration from.

Glenn grew up in Pennsylvania and started drawing in grade school, she later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to attend Kendall College of Art and Design where she majored in Illustration. During her time in college she discovered her passion for watercolors and considers herself a life-long student of this medium.

“The world educates us through sensory experiences, so surface textures are ever-important in my art. Watercolor’s clean simplicity allows me the control I desire for crisply rendered, textural details found in my subjects, whether it be a ghost town saloon, wrinkled leather cowboy boots, or the patterned foliage of a Rocky Mountain wildflower.”
