Lady Dogs drop Polson, look to divisionals

The Lady Bulldogs are heading into the final week of the season with some momentum after a five-set win over Polson last week.

Whitefish traveled south to face the Lady Pirates on Thursday, winning in sets of 25-22, 23-25, 20–25, 25-10, 16-14.

Head coach Addy Connelly said she was happy seeing her team come back after dropping the second and third sets.

“We got things taken care of in five for the first time,” she said. “We actually competed and finished a game, which was great to see. Their game four against Polson was fabulous, really played clean and finished in game five. That’s a good place to be going into the [divisional] tournament.”

Full stats for the game were not available.

Right now the Lady Dogs have a full week of practice ahead of them before they start postseason play next week, likely with a play-in match against Browning on Monday at home.

Connelly said she wants to see more work on the finishing aspect of the game, which she saw last week.

“A lot of our stuff is just finishing, so it was great to see them actually perform from beginning to end and come through in clutch times. That’s going to continue being our focus, running drills where we’re coming from behind or we’re ahead and limiting the runs the other team can get.”

Going into divisional play, Connelly said she wishes her team were sitting at second place instead of third, which wouldn’t require a play-in game, but she’s seen enough to feel optimistic this year.

“I’d like them to be in the top two just to give them a little extra break, but knowing how well and hard we’ve played against Columbia Falls and how we played against Polson, I think we’re very capable if we can just put things together,” she said.

Western A Divisional play starts on Nov. 7 in Dillon.
