Critical for Whitefish Schools to make transition to new superintendent

| October 22, 2019 1:27 PM

I am honored to serve as Superintendent of Whitefish Schools. Now in my fifth year, I continue to be humbled by the support of the Whitefish community for our schools, quality of our educators, and the opportunity I’ve been given to serve. I care deeply about all of our students, teachers, support staff, administrators, families, and the community of Whitefish. I fulfill my leadership role and job duties daily with great pride, integrity, and a belief in all children.

Last November I shared with the Whitefish community that this would be my final contract with Whitefish School District due to changes in my family situation. This week, I submitted my resignation to the Board of Trustees effective at the end of the 2019-20 school year. I did this early because it is critical to the success of Whitefish Schools and our students that we ensure a smooth transition, including the time and opportunity for the Trustees to hire the next Superintendent of Whitefish Schools.

Two years ago my husband’s company merged with a much larger, out-of-state company. He now spends significant time traveling, making it much more difficult for our children and us. These changes are encouraging and wonderful, but create the necessity for this announcement, which I approach in a positive light.

I believe in the ability of every child to meet and exceed high expectations for learning and I commit myself to this belief with everything that I do. All children deserve to be treated with dignity, while also receiving a rigorous, quality education that prepares them for college, career and engagement in our global society.

When caring teachers, support staff, administrators, parents, families, peers, and the community come together, support one another, and help each student develop confidence and a growth mindset, we ensure the success of every child and the success of our whole community. The commitment and engagement of the Whitefish community in our public schools are reflections of this amazing town.

I will continue to fulfill my full responsibilities through the remainder of my time as Superintendent with these values as my foundation. The Board of Trustees has established a search committee to plan and organize the process of hiring the next Superintendent. I will help make the transition to the next Superintendent a smooth and positive process for all.

Heather Davis Schmidt is the Superintendent of Whitefish Schools.
