The city was set to review stricter rules for political signs in town. The new rules would limit political signs to 60 days of visibility and shrink the size limit from 32-square-feet to 16-square-feet.

Oct. 21, 1999

It was that time of year again. A 300-pound grizzly was captured on Dakota Avenue after a week of bear sightings in Whitefish. Another was tracked down Wisconsin avenue.

Oct. 19, 1989

While the new Muldown prepares for its inaugural school year next fall, in 1989 the district was looking toward an expansion of the current school. The board had voted to draft a site study for the expansion, which would look at the school’s needs and determine the next steps.

Oct. 18, 1979

The Flathead Valley had a strange first — the first man to make an unauthorized hookup to cable TV. A Columbia Falls man was fined $50 for theft of services after illegally connecting to cable TV, whose service costs about $25.

Oct. 23, 1969

After coming in under the bond value used to repair the Whitefish High School gym and locker rooms, the district was sending money back to the taxpayers. The district gave $2,200 back into its reserve to lower taxes.
