City begins fall leaf pickup on Oct. 21

| October 18, 2019 6:10 AM

The City of Whitefish Public Works Department will begin picking up naturally occurring debris from residents’ fall yard cleanup such as leaves, grass clippings, and tree branches on Mondays beginning Oct. 21.

Pickup runs through Nov. 22.

Leaves and clippings must be bagged and securely tied. Bags weighing over 25 pounds will not be picked up. The city asks that animal waste or refuse not be place in the bags.

Tree limbs or branches must be trimmed into 4-foot lengths; limbs should be securely bundled with twine.

Place the debris on the nearest boulevard for pickup, if there is not access to a boulevard, the material may be set at least 10 feet from the nearest refuse container.

The city encourages residents to compost their yard and garden waste to reduce to amount of material to be picked up.

The city will not pick up such items as old appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction rubble or over-sized tree limbs or branches. These items must be hauled by the property owner to the county landfill.

For those who prefer to drop off bagged leaves, the city will have a trailer available at the recycling site located at Columbia Ave and Railway Street.

All leaves collected are composted at Purple Frog Gardens.
