Congratulations to Bulldog golfers at state

Cameron Kahle had an epic finish on the way to his Class A State Championship at the Laurel Golf Club last Friday. Down by three shots with two holes to play, Cameron proceeded to birdie the par three 17th hole and follow that up with an eagle on the par five 18th hole to force a playoff. Both putts were over 15 feet on his final two holes. In the playoff Cameron parred all three holes while his opponent doubled the third hole ending the competition with the medalist honors going to Cameron.

The Lady Bulldogs came home from Laurel with a second place trophy for the talented squad. All five girls had their scores count over the two day tournament with Meagan Archibald posting the lowest score and finishing in 11th place overall. Ella Shaw, while not having her best rounds, was the team leader all year long and is a big reason the girls were in position to challenge at the state tournament.

Doorn and Jacobson newest WLGC Board members

Karen Jacobson and Jeff Doorn are the newly elected board members for the Whitefish Lake Golf Association directors. Both bring a long term relationship with the golf club, a useful skill set and enthusiasm to their new position. I would add that both are very good golfers as well.

Annual Meeting

The WLGA Annual Meeting was held this past weekend with all the committees giving very favorable reports as the club enjoyed a busy season with excellent playing conditions all year. Revenue for the year was slightly ahead of projections in the budget and course improvement projects were completed in an excellent manner. This year the course added an enhanced short game practice area and renovated cart paths on holes 12 and 17 of the North Course. In 2020 the club plans to build a new practice putting green during the fall on the South Course that will be roughly twice the size of the current one.

Golf more than scoring

While we all like to make a good score, there are many aspects to the game to enjoy. Being able to work the ball, following a strategy for playing difficult holes, getting up and down from the sand, reading putts are all part of the challenge of the game. If you tie all your enjoyment of the game to just the score, then you are missing out on many important facets of the game that make it special. Just like in life, smell the roses, enjoy the moment and your score will improve as well.
