WLGA Annual Meeting Saturday

The Annual Meeting of the Whitefish Lake Golf Association will be held this Saturday, Oct. 5 starting at 9:15 a.m. with a hosted brunch followed by the business meeting at 9:45 a.m. All members are invited to attend the meeting and learn about the operations, finances, facility improvements, etc., and to elect two new board members for three-year terms which begin in 2020. Absentee ballots are available in the Golf Shop until Friday, Oct. 4 to vote for the candidates. This year’s candidates are Jeff Doorn, Norm Nelson and Karen Jacobson.

World’s Hardest Golf Tournament

The Whitefish Lake Golf Club version of the World’s Hardest Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 after the Annual Meeting of the Association. Entries may be made in-person at the Golf Shop or call 862-5960 for more information. The format will be a nine-hole, two-person scramble over a course that places hole locations in precarious positions and over fairways that are not normally seen.

Aeration at WLGC

A process called Dry-Jet is being used for the third year in a row for the fall maintenance, (aeration) of all 36 greens on the two golf courses, plus the two practice greens. This took place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and you will notice how quickly the putting greens return to being smooth and puttable.

Lining up your putt

Most players either mark a line on their golf ball, (Calloway now sells balls with lines already on the ball), to use as an alignment aide. Read the break from the hole back to the ball and then pick a spot, say 10 inches or so in front of the ball, where you want to ball roll over on its way to the hole and align the mark up with that spot. After a couple of practice putts to check how hard you think you have to strike the putt along that line, pull the trigger.

Bulldog Golf

Great job in the divisional tournament for both teams with the girls capturing yet another Divisional title and boys in second place. Ella Shaw and Cameron Kahle were the individual champions for girls and boys at the Divisional. Now it’s off to the State Tournament for both teams in Laurel. Go Dogs.
