Speech takes silver in C-Falls

The Whitefish speech and debate team had another good showing, this time at Columbia Falls on Saturday.

Whitefish had a pair of overall champions — Abigail Bowden in extemporaneous and Bethany Barnes in informative — and took second in sweepstakes points behind C-Falls.

Elizabeth Campbell took second in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Aidan Reid third in original oratory and Lucy Schindler third in dramatic interpretation.

Eden Scrafford also took fifth in humorous interpretation, while the pair of Muriel Mercer and Rachel Bowles took fourth in public forum debate. Stacia Tremper and Sophie Tabor also took sixth in public forum debate.

Coach Sara Mueller said she was encouraged by how her team showed up in Columbia Falls.

“I am very proud and excited for some newcomers and students new to their events,” she said. “The team is really starting to come together, and we are ready to put in the work for needed to stay competitive for the rest of the season.

The team’s next competition comes after the Thanksgiving break on Dec. 6-7 in Kalispell.
