While both the Bulldogs boys soccer team this year and 10 years ago competed in the state title matches, only one came away victorious. The 2009 Dogs fell short against Billings Central by a 5-1 margin, while the current Dogs recently bested Laurel 4-0.

Nov. 4, 1999

It was back to the drawing board for Whitefish’s Central School after a $4.5-million bond that would upgrade the school and add administration offices was rejected by local voters. The bond lost by a 52 to 48 percent margin, with a recent hike in water rates possibly to blame.

30 years ago

Nov. 2, 1989

Winter was coming to northwestern Montana, as Big Mountain had already started accumulating a few inches of snow while 5 inches closed the Going-to-the-Sun Road for the season. The Big Mountain Ski Resort was ready to begin snowmaking for the season as colder temperatures began to move in.

40 years ago

Nov. 1, 1979

A Whitefish woman’s vacation turned out to be a success of Jurassic proportions. Leona Constenius was fossil hunting in the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife refuge when she stumbled upon an 8-foot triceratops skull buried in the dirt. The dinosaur lived roughly 80 million years ago.

50 years ago

Nov. 6, 1969

Drivers in the Flathead might have noticed a group of students making the 15-mile trek from Kalispell up to Whitefish. The students were donating a set amount per mile walked as part of a fundraising campaign aimed at helping world hunger issues.
