Symphony gives students scholarships

| May 28, 2019 2:09 PM

Four student musicians who perform frequently with the Glacier Symphony were awarded 2019 Youth Music Experience Scholarships. Music Director, John Zoltek and board member Mark Holston presented the awards onstage at intermission of the Symphony’s Spring Festival concert.

The program encourages student participation in the Glacier Symphony, Orchestra and Chorale, and assists those student musicians in pursuing a career or an avocation in music. The award of scholarships is based on musical ability and potential as determined by the Scholarship Committee.

Receiving awards were percussionist Delaney Wirtala, a senior at Glacier High School who plans to attend the University of Montana with a focus on music; Anna Schultz, a senior at Flathead High School who plays flute and plans to attend Montana State University, focusing on music; Else Michelsen a senior at Stillwater Christian School who plays oboe and piano and will use her award for oboe studies; and Bethany Barnes, a Whitefish High junior who plays viola and harp and will use her award to attend Camp Festival Amadeus this summer.

The scholarships are awarded annually to qualifying students as part of the Glacier Symphony’s “Youth Music Experience” program. For more information about the Glacier Symphony, orchestra and chorale visit www.glaciersymphony.org or call 406-407-7000.
