Wild Rivers Film Tour makes stop here
The 2019 Wild Rivers Film Tour will make a stop in Whitefish next week.
Now in its fourth year, the Wild Rivers Film Tour celebrates the connection to clean water and free-flowing rivers. Juried films document a journey down the nation’s capital river, water’s value in extreme arctic and desert climates, conserving a southern river corridor surrounded by urban sprawl, and the epic effort to create a National Wild and Scenic Rivers system.
The tour will be at Casey’s in Whitefish on April 3. Doors open at 6 p.m. and films begin at 7 p.m.
“The Wild Rivers Film Tour bridges the divide between rural and urban watersheds. It reminds us that healthy rivers hold hidden values that humble the human spirit.” says GYC Senior Waters Conservation Associate Charles Wolf Drimal.
“I think most river enthusiasts start to get cabin fever this time of year, dreaming of warmer days around the corner. Not only is this tour about the importance of protecting our rivers, but it’s about bringing us together around a resource that is central to our way of life in Montana, and to have some fun”, says Kascie Herron, American Rivers Communications Coordinator.
Nine films carry the audience through 110 minutes of emotional and exhilarating cinema. The 2019 selections include: “Testimony to Congress: In Defense of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge,” “Hallowed Waters — Legacy and Lifeblood of the Big Blackfoot,” “The Last Green Thread, Hank Patterson’s Private Property,” “Reviving The Backyard: The Nation’s River,” “Grand Canyon Water,” “Shred for the South Fork,” “Hank Patterson’s Multi-Use Trails,” and “Run Wild Run Free.”
American Rivers and the Greater Yellowstone Coalition will host the Wild Rivers Film Tour to promote the next age of river conservation in Montana and advocate for the introduction of the Montana Headwaters Security Act. The Montana Headwaters Security Act proposes to use Wild & Scenic River designations to keep iconic rivers on public lands in Montana clean and free-flowing. The effort is supported by American Rivers, the Greater Yellowstone Coalition and Montanans for Healthy Rivers — a coalition of businesses, private land owners, sportsmen and conservation groups.
The Wild Rivers Film Tour is supported by Bucks T4, Freedom Bank, Glacier Raft Company, Glacier Guides and Montana Raft Company, Granite Sports Medicine, Great Northern Whitewater Raft & Resort, Moonlight Community Foundation, Montana River Guides, Northern Lights, OnSite Energy, Opportunity Bank of Montana, Sweetwater Travel Company, Sweetwater Fly Shop, Sylvan Peak Mountain Shoppe, Timber Trails, The Trailhead, West Glacier Village by Pursuit, and the Whitewater Rescue Institute.
