The city was looking at ways to regulate mobile vendors and clean up old, vague codes surrounding them. Councilors wanted to help the new businesses — which saw a constant increase in applications — while also keeping the town from looking “like a flea market.”

March 25, 1999

Thanks to a federal grant redirected by the Montana Department of Transportation, Whitefish was looking forward to getting a new truck to help clean up a layer of dust around the city. A new street sweeper and flush truck would help tidy up the city’s dust issue.

30 years ago

March 22, 1989

The Big Mountain was looking toward the future, as parent company Winter Sports, Inc. announced $4.8 million in expansions. The improvements included a new high-speed lift, snowmaking equipment, a swimming pool, tennis courts, more buildings and a new look for the Base Lodge area.

40 years ago

March 22, 1979

Whitefish faced a bumpy road ahead if a bill giving county road funds to cities passed the state Legislature. County commissioners said commitments to planned improvement projects in Whitefish, including the high school parking lot and Denver, Texas and Colorado avenues, would not be honored if the bill passed.

50 years ago

March 27, 1969

The local Senior Girl Scout Troop 456 was collecting clothing to help those far overseas. The troop was gathering clothing items to donate to a small orphanage near Saigon, Vietnam, which housed 130 children ages from 2 weeks to 4 years old.
