The Montana Department of Transportation is considering widening 1 mile of U.S. Highway 93 west of Whitefish.

The project is located on Highway 93 from reference post 133 to reference post 134, including the two curves between Twin Bridges Road and Beaver Lake Road.

MDT is holding an open house on the plan on Wednesday, March 20, from 5-7 p.m. at the Whitefish Community Center, 121 East 2nd St. The public is invited to visit project displays, ask questions and provide comments on the project. Project team members will be available during the open house to discuss the project.

Proposed work includes widening the roadway to include 4-foot shoulders, flattening side slopes, and guardrail. The purpose of the project is to increase safety by addressing run-off-the-road crashes.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2022 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. Minor utility relocation and acquisition of new right-of-way are anticipated.
