Bulldog Open winners

This year’s Bulldog Open winners and recipients of the prestigious green jackets was the team of Jim and Kyle Archer and Rick and Tyler Gardner. The full field of 65 teams enjoyed a picture perfect day on the North Course for the four-person scramble format benefiting the Gary Norby Junior Golf Foundation, which supports all our junior golf programs at WLGC.

Thanks to our sponsors for Hole in Ones, Don K and HUB International Insurance, Shawn Ryan collected a great prize for his shot on Hole 11. National Parks Realty sponsored the evening BBQ and Whitefish Lake Restaurant and Markus Foods provided the lunch for all participants. Whitefish businesses and citizens continue to step up and support good causes throughout the city so we thank all of our sponsors and players.

U.S. Open

The U.S. Open at Pebble Beach once again showcased the best professional golfers on tour and couple of young amateurs who also had great four days of golf. Gary Woodland showed tremendous poise by hanging on down the finish to claim his first major championship. Brooks Kepka put on a huge charge early in the round with 4 birdies in the first 6 holes, but failed to pass Woodland and win his would be record of three straight Open Championships. Woodlands chip on the 17th green over the finger of the green that blocked his putt was phenomenal under such pressure. As always the largest crowds on all four days were following Tiger Woods who finished two-under for the tournament thanks to a strong finish. The USGA got it right this week with their efforts to identify the best golfer and not just embarrass them.

Trying too hard

Trying too hard really does get in the way of a successful golf round. One common error is trying to hit the ball too hard. Swinging full strength actually tends to yield the opposite results. More than likely you will sway ahead of the ball as you attempt to gain power. Try to swing at about 80 percent of your full speed. This will help you hit the ball in the center of the club face more often and you stay balanced during your swing. It is about hitting the ball solid, not hard. Observe the Lady Professionals who best exhibit this trait.
