Open house held on Smith Lake plan

Join Whitefish Legacy Partners and the City of Whitefish to learn about upcoming conservation and recreation opportunities at Smith Lake, 8 miles northwest of Whitefish, during an open house on Thursday, June 13 5-7 p.m. at the Whitefish Legacy Partners office, 525 Railway, Suite 206. Legacy Partners is looking to permanently protect 800 acres of local open land for wildlife habitat, watershed protection, public access on the Whitefish Trail, and sustainable forest management. Input is needed to establish the conservation, education, and recreation priorities at Smith Lake. Trail construction could begin as early as 2020.

Drop in the WLP offices anytime from 5-7 p.m. for an informal design charrette where to provide input on proposed recreation amenities at Smith Lake. Complimentary drinks and light hors d’oeuvres will be provided. This event is free, open to the public, and no RSVP is required.

The Whitefish Trail is the anchor project of Whitefish Legacy Partners and the result of collaborative partnerships providing public access and recreation while protecting clean water, thriving forests, and prime wildlife habitat on open lands located in the urban interface of Whitefish Montana. To date, Whitefish Legacy Partners and City of Whitefish have established over 42 miles of a recreational trail system accessed by 12 trailheads. The Whitefish Trail continues to pioneer conservation, education and recreation initiatives, with strategic partners, volunteers, and financial support from the community.
