Efforts to build a new school and create a strategic plan for the district’s curriculum were being discussed. The Whitefish School Board heard presentations outlining why a new high school was needed. The need for an aligned strategic vision for the district was also highlighted.

June 3, 1999

While most of Whitefish celebrated those who had fallen on Memorial Day, a group of vandals took a different approach, removing the flags placed in the Whitefish Cemetery and throwing them on the ground or out of the area.

May 31, 1989

The boys tennis team took first in Class A. Whitefish won state for the second year in a row, with singles and doubles champions, led by Jim Cripe.

40 years ago

May 31, 1979

The Flathead Valley’s water rights was the big topic after the federal government filed a water rights lawsuit against over 200 defendants in the Valley. The complaints argued that the government and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribes had first claim on Flathead water.

50 years ago

June 5, 1969

The framework of a new housing complex was coming along on Second Street by the river. While the apartments would hopefully be affordable, the focus in 1969 was on providing housing for Whitefish’s elderly residents.
