Whitefish was without a yellow cab, as the lone taxi business in town called it quits. Whitefish Taxi ran for four years, but couldn’t justify the investments needed to keep things running in the future.

July 22, 1999

Crime in fact does pay, Whitefish police learned. The Whitefish Police Department received about $85,000 in their share of profits after the sale of the Top Gun Ranch, which was built with “tainted money” by convicted drug smuggler Jimmy Allard.

30 years ago

July 26, 1989

Plans to bring a new Marina Beach townhouse development to the lake came to a halt after a number of procedural errors kept the project from approval. A number of residents opposed the project, but the real frustration was with the city. As one resident said, “It appears that no one knows what the hell is going on.”

40 years ago

July 26, 1979

Some homeowners near Happy Valley were opposed to plans for a gas station and grocery story in the area. The store and gas station were planned for the south side of the entryway to Happy Valley.

50 years ago

July 24, 1969

Whitefish held its first Summer Festival, and Mother Nature cooperated. The festival combined a boat regatta, horseback and carnival rides, a parade and retail specials downtown, all held under sunny skies.
