Despite a strong tournament showing for the Glacier Twins this weekend, the team fell in a tough championship blowout.

The Twins took second overall in their home Sapa/Johnsrud Tournament this weekend, falling to the Lethbridge Elks 11-2 in the title game.

Glacier put up a fight, with six hits for the team and Austyn Andrachick going 3-for-3 with a double and RBI. Coby Clark-Dickinson added a double and Jack Schwaiger a triple, but it wasn’t enough.

The Elks put up 13 hits and zero errors in the win, scoring seven runs in the third inning alone.

Nathan Hader took the loss for the Twins on the mound, allowing seven hits and nine runs in nearly three innings.

That loss was the second in the tournament for Glacier, who dropped a game the previous day to the Kalispell Lakers AA 6-3.

Kalispell capitalized on two two-run innings late in the game after falling behind 3-2 in the fourth.

Clark-Dickinson took the loss on the mound after five innings, allowing three hits and four runs but striking out five.

The title match was the second straight game against the Lethbridge Elks, who lost to Glacier on Saturday night 3-2.

The Twins jumped ahead after a Schwaiger RBI put Hader across the plate in the bottom of the sixth to go up 3-2.

Forrest Kobelt got the win for Glacier, going nearly seven innings for eight strikeouts and four hits.

The Twins also defeated the Spokane Cannons 10-4 and the Butte Miners A 9-1 en route to the championship.

Now it’s postseason time for the Twins, who are looking to defend their regional title from last year.

The team will start District Tournament play in Libby on July 17 and continue through July 21.
