Coral Schulz wins Fourth

Coral Schulz won the Women’s Division Championship of the Whitefish Lake Golf Club Fourth of July Tournament last week by 5 shots over her nearest competitor. In winning Coral became the first local player to win the tournament since now Golf Professional Christine Newton won some 30-plus years ago. Schulz was extremely consistent in all three rounds with steady ball striking and exceptional putting on what appeared to be fast greens. According to Coral, winning the Fourth of July Tournament was extremely high on her list of goals to check off in an already successful golf career. Sean Ramsbacher, from Missoula, captured the men’s title in the three-day event, coming back from a three-shot deficit the final day.

Dow Powell, Whitefish, played extremely well in capturing the Senior Division title by 3 shots with a final day score of even par on the North Course.

Derby a huge success

The new format for the Fourth of July Derby was well received by the players and the gallery as well. With 15 teams starting the round and over 400 hundred spectators the first tee and fairway were lined with eager gallery members watching what proved to be a very competitive derby. The five ladies teams showed themselves to be very competitive with one team surviving until the eighth hole and two other through number five. Congrats to the winners of the derby, in a two-hole playoff and then a chipping contest, Andrew Medley and Marty Mehl prevailed in front of the huge crowd.

Tournaments don’t just happen

With over 240-plus players in this year’s Fourth of July Tournament the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes is incredible. Tim Olson and his staff do an excellent job in running the best tournaments in the area year in and year out. While everyone deserves high praise for their contributions, Christine Newton and Lyndsie Sebby go the extra mile assuring a professional grade event is presented for all the participants and fans. The Foruth of July Tournament attracts perhaps the highest quality field in the state bringing in players from all around the region. Great job, to not only our Golf Shop staff and Professionals, but also to the best green crew around for the impeccable playing conditions.
