Christmas in July — a special train promoting Disney’s film “A Christmas Carol” was passing through Whitefish. Visitors to the train got a sneak peak at the film via a digital 3D theater in a tent outside the train.

20 years ago

July 8, 1999

Whitefish Mountain Resort had already exceeded its preseason winter pass sales, surpassing 7,500 passes already at the early-bird price of $289 for an adult. By October of last year, for reference, the resort had sold 10,000 passes at the early-bird price of $660 per adult.

30 years ago

July 12, 1989

The Hibernation House building on Big Mountain was moving locations, and a lot was required. Around 360 tons of the building and steel support beams that made up the Hibernation House were moved a half mile from its original location in order to make room for the Glacier Chaser quad chairlift. The project would be one of the largest moves done in Montana.

40 years ago

July 12, 1979

The Fourth of July celebration in Whitefish were cut short after someone threw a tear gas canister near a restroom on City Beach during the fireworks show. The gas caused burning eyes and irritated skin for some, but no serious injuries were reported otherwise.

50 years ago

July 10, 1969

The Big Mountain Ski Resort welcomed the new Alpinglow Inn with a dedication ceremony, with representatives from the Great Northern Railway, Air West, Pacific Power and Light and other businesses in attendance. The inn would represent the “finest winter and summer accommodations yet developed in the Northwest for skiers,” according to the Pilot.
