The Whitefish Winter Carnival Art Expo on Saturday, Feb. 2 will showcase artwork submitted to the Climate Smart Art Contest.

The expo begins at 5 p.m. at Whitefish Performing Arts Center. Refreshments will be served while providing the chance to admire the work of local artists, from elementary school students to professionals. Carnival royalty will be there to help celebrate, prizes will be awarded to the winners. The event is free.

The expo will highlight local artists in a wide variety of mediums including photo, video and mixed media. In addition, there will be a Winter Carnival snow sculpture contest sponsored by the Whitefish Parks Department.

After presenting the awards, there will be a showing of the winning video and a screening of the film “Depth Perception,” This film, directed by Justin Taylor Smith and Chris Murphy and starring Travis Rice, focuses on the relationship between snowboarding and nature. Local Whitefish resident, Dylan Parr, helped edit the video. The Art Expo is sponsored by the city of Whitefish and Climate Smart Glacier Country. The art contest will serve as a companion to the unveiling of the city of Whitefish Climate Action Plan At-A-Glance document, a way to raise community awareness around the city’s efforts to adapt to and increase resilience to climate change.
