Whitefish was among several Montana communities that recently received grants from the state Department of Commerce to assist with attracting visitors.

Funds totaling $829,644 will be awarded through the Tourism Grant Program at the Department of Commerce, Office of Tourism and Business Development.

The city of Whitefish and Whitefish Legacy Partners was awarded $20,000 to add to wayfinding signs for trails. Signs will be installed along the city’s bike path along the Whitefish River and on roads directing users to the Whitefish Trail.

The Tourism Grant Program awards funds to projects that strengthen Montana’s economy through the development and enhancement of the state’s tourism and recreation industry, according to a release. Eligible projects include arts, culture and heritage preservation; visitor facility upgrades and construction; and niche product development.
