Bulldogs show off at home meet

The Whitefish swim team defended its home pool with some strong performances at the Cat-Dog Invitational on Saturday at The Wave.

The team had a handful of top-five finishes in the meet, which featured area schools like Columbia Falls, Bigfork, Flathead and Glacier.

For the girls, Ada Qunell led the way with a second place in the 50 yard freestyle (25.38) and a third in the 100 butterfly (1:03.08).

Annie Sullivan had a strong showing as well, taking third in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.40) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:37.64). Helena Kunz finished fifth in both the 200 freestyle (2:04.99) and the 500 freestyle (5:38.26).

On the boys end, Preston Ring dominated with a pair of golds.

Ring took first in the 500 freestyle (4:59.12) as well as the 100 breaststroke (1:01.27).

Logan Botner took fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:02.77) and 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.62), while Kelvin Dicks took fifth in the 100 freestyle (57.60).

Overall team results were not available.

This weekend the team will head south for the Missoula Invitational.

They’ll have some time off after that before the Class A State Swim Meet, which will be on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 in Bozeman.
