Downhillers grab podium spots

Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation ski racers dominated the U16 Boys podium at Big Sky last weekend, while U14 and younger skiers showed well at Bridger Bowl.

At Big Sky, Colin Harper, Tyler Anderson and Burke Fox found gold, silver and bronze in the U16 Boys Giant Slalom on Friday. Carson Keim earned seventh, Cale Fox came in at ninth place and Jordon Jurasek grabbed 11th.

In Saturday’s slalom race, Harper and Anderson were first and second again. Jurasek finished seventh and Cale Fox nabbed 10th place. Colter Upton finished fourth in the U19 class. The final slalom race on Sunday had Harper and Anderson atop the podium again, with Jurasek in fourth, Cale Fox at 13th and Upton placing eighth in U19.

Also over the weekend, Bridger Bowl near Bozeman hosted two Giant Slalom races for U14 and younger skiers.

In the girls race on Saturday, Kellie Klepper led the U12 Flathead Valley girls in fourth place, followed by Amelia Remly fifth, Katie Hersom sixth and Rylan Veikle 12th.

In the U10 Girls, Liesel Brust finished atop the podium with Corina Kneeland third and Kira Paatalo in sixth. In the boys competition, Brodie Kneeland finished in first place and Buren Brust in ninth. In the 10U, Parker Retz finished 10th and Gus Paatalo 11th.

In Sundays U12 girls race, Amelia Remley finished in fourth place, Katie Hersom earned sixth, followed by Kellie Klepper in seventh and Rylan Veikle in 16th place. In the U10 girls, Liesel Brust finished third, Corina Kneeland fifth and Rylan Veilke in 16th.

In the boys U14 race Sunday, Brodie Kneeland again finished in first place. In the U12s, Bryce Remley finished third with Parker Retz coming in 11th place.
