Delmar B. Granmo

Delmar B. Granmo, 85, passed away peacefully at his Whitefish home on Dec. 27, 2018.

Del was born on Feb. 21, 1933 in Missoula, Montana to Andrew and Lillie Granmo. The family moved to Kalispell where Del graduated from Flathead High School in 1951. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he served as a naval photographer. After the Navy, Del attended Montana State University and graduated with a degree in accounting. He later received his master’s degree from the Thunderbird School of International Management.

In 1956, Del married Shirley Paola. Together they had three children: Cindy, Jerry and Bryon. The family lived in the Philippines for many years, where Del worked for Firestone International and later, Grolier Publishing. After returning to the Flathead in 1972, he and Shirley owned and managed Win-Na-Kee resort on Whitefish Lake. After selling the resort, Del worked as an accountant for several local businesses before retiring in 1994.

One of Del’s lifelong passions was golf. He lived to play golf, and was an avid and dedicated golfer until a stroke left him unable to play. His other passion was his 39 year friendship with Bill W., and he dedicated most of his time and energy in helping others in the program.

Del was preceded in death by his two sons, Jerry and Bryon. He missed them every single day. He was also preceded by his parents, his brother Lauren, and his sister Dianne.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy, and his granddaughter, Marit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Veteran’s Food Pantry in Kalispell.
