Gareth Roger Llewellyn

| February 26, 2019 1:05 PM

Gareth Roger Llewellyn, 61, of Whitefish, Montana, passed away in his home on Jan. 22, 2019. Gareth was born on Oct. 30, 1957 to John “Tony” and Valerie Llewellyn in the United Kingdom. His family moved to Ottawa, Canada when he was young. They then continued on to Florida, where he grew up with two younger sisters, Siân and Ceri, and attended college.

Gareth was an avid cyclist. Over the course of many cycling trips, he traveled across the entire continental U.S., from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. He especially enjoyed journeying through the West on his bicycle, camping and adventuring in the mountains. Most recently, Gareth settled in Whitefish and worked as a cook in local restaurants. He referred to work as “all the stuff I do to pay for my bicycle trips.”

Gareth is survived by family and friends in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and New Zealand. He will be remembered for his caring heart, loud voice, wit and sense of humor, willingness to help others, and for his love of cycling and the outdoors. Gareth was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed.

A remembrance gathering and silent auction of Gareth’s bicycles will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Remington Bar in Whitefish. Proceeds from the event will be used towards dedicating a tree or park bench on the Whitefish Bike Path in Gareth’s name.

Rest easy, G. We will miss you.
