State studying reconstruction of Whitefish Stage Road

| February 20, 2019 9:35 AM

The Montana Department of Transportation is hosting an open house public meeting on a study to review roadway reconstruction alternatives for Whitefish Stage Road between West Reserve Drive and Montana Highway 40.

The open house will be held in Kalispell on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Room 139 of the Arts & Technology Building at the Flathead Community College. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a brief presentation. After the presentation, the public is invited to visit project displays and meet with project team members to ask questions and provide comments on the project.

The purpose of the study is to determine the scope and limits of a future reconstruction project, which will provide an improved roadway that enhances mobility, safety, long-term viability and future capacity for a high-growth area of the county.

The project study limits begin at reference post 0.5 north of the intersection with West Reserve Drive and extends north to reference post 9.3 at the intersection with Montana 40. The proposed project will analyze improvements including widening the existing roadway, flattening side slopes, and improving horizontal and vertical alignments. Safety projects have recently been completed along this road and those sections will not be reconstructed. An estimated construction date will be determined upon completion of the study.
