Climate advocate training workshop Saturday
The Flathead Valley Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby will hold a Climate Advocate Training workshop for local folks interested in climate solutions at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.
CCL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, volunteer-driven organization. The Flathead chapter is one of five established in Montana. It is part of a network of hundreds of chapters around the country working to build political will to respond to climate change. Matthew Lamberts of Bigfork founded the group which has met monthly since April at the local Perkins.
“I was moved from despair to hope upon learning about this nonpartisan organization,” said CCL chapter Co-Leader and Whitefish resident Robin Paone. “Their easy-to- understand solution makes a lot of sense. What won me over is their politeness and positivity. I feel I am making a meaningful difference in helping solve climate change.”
The CCL’s consistently respectful, conciliatory approach to climate education is designed to create a broad, sustainable foundation for action across all geographic regions and political inclinations. By building upon shared values rather than partisan divides and empowering volunteers to use the tools of democracy, CCL works towards the adoption of fair, effective and sustainable climate change solutions.
The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763), endorsed by CCL, will drive down America’s carbon pollution and bring climate change under control while unleashing American technology innovation and ingenuity. This bipartisan legislation is effective in reducing America’s emissions by at least 40 percent within 12 years while creating jobs and benefiting the economy. The money collected from the carbon fee is allocated in equal shares each month to all Americans to spend any way they choose.
Kristen Walser, volunteer CCL State Coordinator for Montana, will be coming up from Bozeman to lead the 3 hour training, which she hopes will “break through the myth that we can’t make a difference and inspire attendees to feel confident in using the tools of democracy.”
The workshop is free and open to the public. It will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at ImagineIf Library in Kalispell, 247 1st Avenue East,
