The town was set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Whitefish Ski Joring for Winter Carnival. The competition took place at the Whitefish Airport, where it was held until moving to Big Mountain Ranch in 2018.

Jan. 28, 1999

A Whitefish woman got a moose-terious late-night visitor. Chris Carter stepped outside to take her dogs out at the end of the night only to find a moose facing back at her. The moose charged her and the dogs who “went crazy” with barking at the snorting and kicking moose.

30 years ago

Feb. 1, 1989

Diesel that spilled at the Whitefish railyard over the years had contaminated groundwater but posed no health threat, state workers revealed. The state looked at leaked diesel during refueling, which accumulated due to small individual drips but did not leave the railyard site.

40 years ago

Feb. 1, 1979

The new Whitefish radio station KJJR was getting ready to hit the airwaves. The station planned on playing primarily adult contemporary music along with local and national news and sports.

50 years ago

Jan. 30, 1969

Funding for the new hospital got a big boost after an anonymous donor offered to match $30,000 in donations for the new North Valley hospital. In addition, proposed legislation that would create taxpayer-financed hospital districts looked like it could help future financing for the new hospital.
