WTC holds auditions for Black Curtain production

| December 31, 2019 10:11 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for a Black Curtain theatre production of “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

The north door at the back of the O’Shaughnessy Center will open at 6:45 p.m. for those wanting to fill out an audition application early and review the audition selections.

In pastoral Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Vanya and his sister Sonia reside in their old family home, mourning their lost dreams and missed opportunities. However, when their fortune-telling maid, Cassandra, warns of impending dangers, and their movie star sister, Masha, arrives unexpectedly with her hunky boy toy, Spike, a lifetime of sibling rivalry explodes into a rollicking weekend of one-upmanship, exposed nerves, and a lot of broken mugs. Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, acclaimed playwright Christopher Durang has penned a laugh-out-loud play on the modern theme of sibling rivalies and sprinkled it as a loving homage to Chekhov’s themes of heartbreak and hope.

The cast will be composed of four women and two men (ages 20s and up). No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided at the audition. Copies of the entire script can be previewed at all local public libraries.

Katie Nixon is the director for this production. As a Black Curtain show, actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. There will be maximum of nine rehearsals and one tech night on Jan. 24. There are two performances over one weekend on Jan. 25 and 26.
