Speech and debate takes fourth
The Whitefish speech and debate team had a solid outing in Kalispell on Saturday.
The team placed fourth overall in Class A, B, C competition, falling behind Columbia Falls, Frenchtown and Polson.
Abigail Bowden and Lucy Schindler were the top placers for Whitefish, with Bowden taking third in extemporaneous and Schindler third in dramatic interpretation.
Bowden also took fourth in impromptu.
Bethany Barnes took fifth in informative, and Eden Scrafford finished seventh in humorous interpretation.
Head coach Sara Mueller said she was happy with how her team played, even if they didn’t crack the top three.
“Although we did not accumulate enough points to place as a team, quite a few of us had personal bests. Our debate teams fell just short of placing, but got some great rounds in,” she said. “Columbia Falls, Frenchtown, and Polson are putting up some high-quality debaters who are pushing us. We’re really looking forward to traveling as a full team to Hamilton next weekend before taking the time off for break.”
Whitefish competes in Hamilton on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m.
