The Lady Dogs got their season going over the weekend at the Tip-Off Tournament in Frenchtown, but nothing came easy.

Whitefish dropped both of its first two games, falling to Butte Central on Friday 48-22 and Dillon on Saturday 61-44.

Head coach Bob Bolam said it wasn’t the showing he hoped for.

“We didn’t play that well. We played two teams that were pretty good, and we hoped to do better, but foul trouble and a lack of cohesiveness on offense and way too many turnovers just caused us to get down early and never catch up,” he said.

This week the team will head back to Frenchtown to get a shot at the Lady Broncs.

Limiting mistakes will be key, Bolam said.

“We saw Frenchtown play, and they’re a gritty team. They’ve got a lot of girls that hustle down the court,” he said. “We’re focusing on taking care of the ball and staying out of foul trouble. I think if we can do those things, then we compete. If we don’t, we’ll struggle.”
