Big Mountain got about 10 inches of fresh snow over Thanksgiving weekend, preparing the hill for its opening day later in the week. The resort was ready to open at least for the backside with about 31 inches of snow at the summit.

Dec. 2, 1999

It was a bad year to be a bear in northwestern Montana. By winter, 17 bears had been killed in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem.

Nov. 30, 1989

Snow was falling, and drivers were having trouble with it. In a two-day span, officers responded to 12 calls for car accidents, cars in the ditch or cars stuck on icy roads.

Nov. 29, 1979

Dec. 4, 1969

As December got going, a look back at the previous month showed the driest November in 31 years. Only 0.32 inches of precipitation and 0.8 inches of snow fell during the month, and the lake level dropped to two inches above the low water mark.
