Whitefish Mountain Resort opened for its 72nd season on Friday.

Skiers and snowboarders got the chance to get in some early season runs on the north side of the mountain and on the beginner terrain on the lower mountain.

The summit on Friday had a settled base of 31 inches and the village had 5 inches. Skier-wise, the mountain had a bigger opening day than last year, with 1,758 skiers hitting the slopes on Friday. Last season 1,649 skiers came out for opening day.

Chairs 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, T-Bar 2 and the Big Easy Carpet were open.

Whitefish Mountain Resort CEO Dan Graves said the resort was once again very excited for opening day.

“This season we will welcome more season pass holders than ever before,” he said in a release. “Their loyalty and support certainly enhance what makes this resort special and somewhat unique these days. In addition to our pass holders, we look forward to our many returning guests and getting acquainted with new ones.”
