Voisin announces freestyle ski and snowboard scholarship
Whitefish slopestyle skier and Olympian Maggie Voisin is offering a scholarship to assist one athlete who wants to join the Whitefish Mountain Resort’s Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Team.
The scholarship also covers the cost of a season pass for the upcoming year. The scholarship will be awarded to one athlete, male or female, skier or snowboarder. Voisin is a current member of the U.S. Freeski team, a two-time Olympian and an X-Games Gold medalist. She was born and raised in Whitefish and is an alumni of the Whitefish Mountain Resort’s Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Team.
“I want to show kids that you can achieve your wildest dreams with passion, dedication, hard work, and gratitude. Also, and most importantly, always have fun,” Voisin said in a statement.
Voisin has chosen to award an athlete who, in a written essay, best portrays these traits in their skiing or snowboarding life. This scholarship is unique, as traditional athletic scholarships are often based on performance (competition result’s-based) or based on financial need.
Applications will be accepted Sept. 1 through Oct. 11, with the winner to be chosen and announced by Voisin on Nov. 1. If the winner has already paid to join the team and/or purchased a season pass, those costs will be refunded.
Whitefish Freestyle Inc., the nonprofit partner to the Freestyle Team up on the mountain who does offers their own financial need based scholarship program, will administer the scholarship.
