Doctors give behind-the-scenes tour of work

Four Flathead Valley doctors will take the stage at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Aug. 22, to take the audience on a behind-the-scenes journey into real-life procedures and treatments.
Flathead Med will feature stories from physicians at North Valley Hospital, Kalispell Regional Medical Center and Montana Children’s Specialists.
NVH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jason Cohen will host the evening, and local physicians in the fields of internal medicine, emergency care, orthopedics and pediatrics will present four short, in-person episodes covering intriguing cases and complex procedures.
“Real-life medicine can be even more fascinating than medical dramas, like Grey’s Anatomy,” said Allison Linville, NVH marketing and community relations manager. “In Flathead Med, valley residents will get to meet real physicians who are saving and improving lives in our own emergency and operating rooms.”
NVH’s emergency department medical director Dr. Ashleigh Magill will present a case requiring critical intervention and a team of regional specialists, nurses and paramedics who saved the life of a local resident. Surgeons Dr. John Means and Dr. Tim Joyce will reveal fascinating surgeries using robotics and reconstructive techniques in abdominal surgery and joint reconstruction. Dr. Federico Seifarth, a pediatric surgeon at Montana Children’s Specialists, will demonstrate a lifesaving, minimally invasive procedure on one of his smallest patients.
“We are very fortunate in this community to offer the level of skill and care to patients, previously only found at large metropolitan hospitals,” Linville said. “We invite the community to join us, meet their local physicians and learn more about how lives are saved and improved every day right here in the Flathead Valley.”
Flathead Med is a live event starting with an opening reception at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center at 127 Spokane Avenue in Whitefish, followed by Flathead Med episodes from 5:30–7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. No advanced tickets are offered.
