High School hosts community climate talk May 6

| April 30, 2019 4:30 PM

Rob Davies, a physicist and professor at Utah State University, will give a community presentation on adaptation in a changing world on Monday, May 6 at Whitefish High School.

The event will take place beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Black Box Theater at the high school. A question and answer session will follow the presentations at 1:50 p.m.

The event is open to the public, but guests are asked to check in at the front office.

Davies will talk about how human beings are transforming the planet and what systems of food, energy, and economy are all threatened as a result. He will look at what science has to say about creating a sustainable, just, and vibrant human presence on this planet, respecting planetary boundaries and erasing critical human deprivation.

Through his work, Davies focuses on global environmental change and critical science communication. Over the past decade, Davies has developed and delivered hundreds of public lectures on climate change and human sustainability. He is also co-creator of The Crossroads Project, a “performance science” collaboration that has been performed for audiences across the nation on the critically important topic of human sustainability and vibrancy.

Davies is past associate of the Utah Climate Center; has served as a scientific liaison for NASA on the International Space Station Project; as a project scientist with Utah State University’s Space Dynamics Laboratory; and an officer and meteorologist in the United States Air Force.
