As Whitefish Lake started to thaw, lakefront home owners were finding their beaches to be a bit smaller than they remembered. Heavy winds and shifting ice on the lake pushed rocks in the lake inward on the shore, creating moraines and leaving city engineers wondering what they could do to restore the beaches.

April 8, 1999

The popular Snowfrog ski rental shop was leaving its home on Wisconsin Avenue, but fans of the store could still find the ‘Frog when they needed to. The shop moved into Sportsman Ski Haus in Whitefish.

30 years ago

April 5, 1989

Big Mountain in 1989 also saw a record year for skier visits, setting the mark at just over 259,000 with a week to go in the season. Whitefish Mountain Resort this season set a new record at just under 383,000 total skier visits.

40 years ago

April 5, 1979

Softball made the headlines in ‘79, though not for a lack of players. The Whitefish Softball Association was asking City Council for a larger field layout than the current configuration near the golf course, as the fields couldn’t accommodate the groups 250 summer players.

50 years ago

April 10, 1969

Whitefish basketball player Steve Kastella earned double honors, both being voted into the Class A All Western Division basketball team and earning KGVO Radio and Television honors. Kastella was one of six players named to the team.
