WTC holds auditions for 'I Hate Hamlet'
The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for the 2018-2019 season closing production of “I Hate Hamlet” on April 7 at 7 p.m. and on April 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Please arrive early to fill out an audition application and review the script. Please enter at the north side of the building near the new conference room.
The play follows aspiring actor Andrew Rally who has just relocated to New York and landed the role of a lifetime playing Hamlet onstage. There is just one problem: He hates Hamlet. As fate would have it, Andrew’s new Manhattan residence is the former apartment of the brilliant actor John Barrymore, whose portrayal of Hamlet was legendary. When Barrymore’s ghost appears to Andrew — intoxicated and in full Shakespearean garb — so begins a wildly funny duel between the two actors over women, art, success, duty, television, and yes, even the apartment. Will Andrew’s debut be a triumph or a tragedy? Find out in this “fast-mouthed and funny”, fencing-packed comedy with a Shakespearean twist.
The cast will be composed of three men and three women, ages 20s to 60s. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided.
Kim Krueger is the director for this production. Rehearsals begin in April and will be held on weeknight evenings between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. There are seven performances over two weekends on May 30-31, June 1-2 and June 7-9.
