Golfers enjoy fall weather at WLGC

| September 25, 2018 2:05 PM

Golf course going strong

Whitefish Lake Golf Course still has lots of beautiful fall days left to enjoy the game. The North Course will be open for nearly another month while the South will be open until the end of October. Fall golf can be some of the best of year with decreased numbers of players and tee times more readily available.

Whitefish downs Buffalo Hills in Match play

The board and staff from WLGC easily defeated their contemporaries from Buffalo Hill Golf Club this past Sunday in a match play format. The locals won five of the six two person net best ball event and lost just one to BHGC. While this is a fun competition it does allow for the BOD’s from each facility to share ideas and comradery.

Golf is hard, period

Golf is a sport that is relatively easy to enjoy and somewhat difficult to get good at playing. Players often set unrealistic goals for themselves without putting in the time to become consistent. Doing this can lead to frustration with the game and make it lose its enjoyment. The best way to avoid the frustration is to stop and celebrate the good shots and relax and smile when you don’t pull off the shot you wanted. Ben Hogan once said, “Golf is a series of bad shots, some worse than others.” What that means is that we need to concentrate on narrowing our misses and becoming more consistent. If the golf professionals on TV actually hit four shots in a round exactly the way they wanted to they have had a good day of ball striking. That said, where does that leave us? Golf is not a game of perfect, in fact there is a complete book dedicated to that premise, so if you are frustrated find the book and read it.

“Tiger Woods is Good at Golf”

That is a tweet sent out by Tommy Fleetwood last week after playing with Tiger in the BMW Tournament. It is so good for golf to have Tiger return to top form and win his 80th career tournament after all the health issues with his back and knees. The naysayers had him basically at the end of his great career, but once again the Greatest Player of All Time proved them wrong. He will win again and the most popular player on tour will continue to excite the galleries with his shot making, focus and determination. Can’t wait to watch the Ryder Cup this week from Paris.

Absentee ballots available starting Saturday

Ballots for Tier One members not planning to attend the annual meeting on Oct. 13 will be available this coming Saturday in the Golf Shop.
