Too few trees in DNRC proposal

I went to a show me sponsored by the state Department of Natural Resources and Conservation on May 5 at the Legacy Partners Beaver Lake Trailhead. It does not seem that there are that many trees in this area in the first place and you would be right. But the state is going into this piece of ground (915 acres) and proceeding to take what few trees are still standing. The state will leave four to eight mature trees per acre, around the chain of lakes, that are within the boundaries of this sale.

Just believe me when I say that very little time is spent on planting new trees for the future of the School Trust Lands. It will take a long time before the state will be able to make a profit for the schools of Montana if this sale is allowed to proceed. This sale is called the Beaver to Boyle, so it will cover a lot of ground, taking whatever that’s left for wildlife and birds.

This project will take three years to complete, I’m sure a lot of people will witness the affects of this project for a long time.
