WCVB
The Whitefish Convention and Visitors Bureau (Explore Whitefish) will hold a meeting of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the O’Shaughnessy Center, 1 Central Ave. The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, please call 862-3390.
Trick or Treat
The city of Whitefish will hold a Trick or Treat Trail at Bakke Nature Reserve on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. ! Little ones can show off their costumes as they meander around the trail, collecting treats at stations along the way. Kids who complete the fun fitness activities along the trail will be entered to win a Strider bike courtesy of the Rotary Club of Whitefish.
The James R. Bakke Nature Reserve was deeded to the city by James Bakke to provide open space for the benefit of the citizens of the Whitefish community. The reserve includes an interpretive trail, parking and picnic tables. Dogs are welcome, but must be on leash. The reserve is located at 611 W. 7th Street in Whitefish.
Bazaar
The Whitefish Community Center is holding its annual Holiday Bazaar on Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free for shoppers. Vendor tables are $15 or $25 for a double space. For more information, call 862-4923.
Financial Aid
Flathead Valley Community College will host a free workshop on Monday, Nov. 5 to help college-bound students and their families complete the necessary forms to apply for federal financial aid, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). One-on-one assistance will be available from noon to 6 p.m. in room 135 of the Business and Social Science Building on FVCC’s Kalispell campus. Appointments are not necessary.
“Filling out the FAFSA is an important step in the process to secure federal, state, and institutional aid to help pay for school. Every year, students and parents miss out on financial aid simply because they don’t apply,” said Rhonda Safford, Reach Higher Montana FAFSA Help statewide coordinator. “Financial aid professionals in Montana will tell you that the return on the investment of taking half an hour or 45 minutes to complete the FAFSA is worth it.”
In order to complete the FAFSA, students and their families who attend the workshop will need to provide the following information: Federal Student Aid identification, which can be obtained at fsaid.ed.gov (students and at least one parent will need identification if the student is under the age of 24); Social Security Numbers (for students and parents); 2017 federal income tax returns; W-2 forms, tribal income or other aid information such as TANF, child support or other benefits; and additional asset information including money market funds, stocks and other investments.
The priority FAFSA filing date for most Montana schools is Dec. 1. Students attending out-of-state schools should contact the school directly for priority dates.

Bazaar
Epworth United Methodist Church is hosting its annual United Methodist Women’s Holiday Bazaar, Bake Sale and Luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a variety of crafts from local artisans, including handmade quilted items, hats, gloves, jewelry, hand carved items and so much more. Coffee and sweet rolls are available from 9-10:30 followed by a soup luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come early to purchase your hand rolled LEFSE, made with real butter and cream.
