The Lady Dogs concluded their season with a silver medal at the Class A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday at the University of Montana Golf Course.

Whitefish finished with 73 points, just behind Hardin’s first-place score of 56. Corvallis came in at third.

The Greenberg sisters led the way for the Lady Dogs. Jade Greenberg took fourth overall (19:46.34), while Ella Greenberg came in just after for sixth (19:59.08). Jessica Henson (20:47.64) cracked the top 20 at 17th overall.

“I can’t say enough about their competitive fire and their getting it done,” head coach Richard Menicke said. “We had four of seven run their best of the year — that’s what you hope for but seldom see in a state championship race. We got beat by a better team, hats off to Hardin. Still, I am so proud of these girls.”

Miles Vrentas was the top finisher for the boys, coming in at 19th overall (17:30.85).

As a team, the boys took 12th. Columbia Falls, Laurel and Lewistown took the top three places at the meet.

“We had hoped for a higher finish, I think we peaked at the conference race,” Menicke said. “This is a young team, we ran three freshmen in the state championship, so that is money in the bank for future years, those guys will be ready for the intensity of state next year and they are willing to do the work to be successful.”
