After falling to Libby, Dogs head to Dillon for playoff game

Despite holding a three-point lead through three quarters, the Bulldogs fell in their final game of the regular season to the Loggers, 28-24, Friday.

With just three minutes to go, Libby punched in the go-ahead score in the Northwest A conference battle at Libby.

Bulldogs quarterback Mark Anderson tried to get his team back down the field for some late game magic, but was intercepted by a Libby defender.

Anderson opened the game’s scoring in the final seconds of the first quarter with a 25-yard rushing touchdown, but the Loggers responded on their next drive to tie the game at seven apiece.

Anderson threw his first pick of the night midway through the second quarter, but the Bulldogs defense recovered a fumble on the ensuing play. The Libby defense, however, got another pick a few plays after.

Anderson found the endzone again later in the quarter to put his team up 14-7.

Another Anderson interception set up a tying Libby touchdown.

Carver Gilman added the first points of the second half with a field goal early in the third quarter to put the Dogs up 17-14.

Anderson found Gilman two minutes later for a touchdown through the air, putting the team up 10.

Libby answered with a touchdown in the final few minutes of the quarter, then another touchdown to put them ahead in the fourth.

Whitefish will look past the disappointing loss as they get ready for Dillon in the first round of the Class A playoffs Friday at 7 p.m. in Dillon. The Beavers went 6-2 on the season, 4-1 in the Southwest A conference for second place behind Hamilton.

Whitefish finishes the regular season 5-4, 3-2 in conference.
